Frozen Banana Bites are delicious frozen treats you can keep stashed away in your freezer, providing a sweet yet creamy snack without using dairy! Enjoy frozen banana bites without dairy!
Why You’ll Like Them
Frozen bananas have long been prized for their creamy consistency, making them an irresistibly irresistible addition to smoothies and parfaits alike. When coated in chocolate they transform into mini ice cream bites!
Frozen banana bites are easy to create; all it requires are three basic ingredients and some patience while they freeze up in your freezer.
These vegan treats are easy and quick to make – less complicated than coconut milk ice cream or vegan ice cream bars and with much less added sugar! When looking for dairy-free/vegan chocolate chips to use as part of the vegan recipe. Alternatively, see the home made chocolate shell recipe below!
Customizable Banana PopsTM are quick and easy to personalize; just add peanut butter, pretzels, sea salt or crushed nuts for some added crunchiness!
No specialized instruments are necessary – no ice cream maker or food processor needed! To create this tasty treat!
Banana bites are allergy friendly. Not only are they naturally gluten-free and nut-free (by leaving out peanut butter), they may be made even lower-sugar by opting for dark chocolate chips as an alternative sweetener source.
Bananas, chocolate chips, coconut oil and all pure peanut butter (peanut butter is completely optional for my recipes), however I find the extra tasteful factor provided by peanut butter irresistible! Peanut butter + banana go well together perfectly so I often create chocolate peanut butter banana bites!
Choose almond, cashew or sunflower seed butter if desired – or leave out for an nut-free treat!
Add an extra burst of flavor with some flaky sea salt on prime! A sprinkle makes all of the difference!
Avoid chocolate chips altogether by creating your own frozen-ready magic shell with maple syrup, coconut oil and cacao powder mixed at room temperature until mixing together to avoid hardening of coconut oil before you can drizzle this delicious treat over frozen bananas!
- Freeze banana slices until frozen solid.
Line a baking sheet or plate with parchment paper, making sure it will fit on an even shelf in your freezer. Slice banana into 1/2-inch money slices, arranging in one layer on your lined baking sheet.
Add peanut butter for some added crunch: add a small dollop (about 1/2 teaspoon) onto each banana slice before placing another one atop it for mini peanut butter sandwiches, or keep these open-faced by just spreading peanut butter onto one banana slice at a time.
Simply pop the pan into the freezer, arranging slices as instructed on a cookie sheet, and allow them to freeze for at least 2 hours (or, for optimal results, one full day).
Tip: For easier serving to guests at business functions, insert toothpicks into each banana slice prior to freezing them. However, I find them simpler when creating these treats just for my family as snacks!
- Soften Chocolate.
Once the banana slices have frozen, begin melting your chocolate and coconut oil together in either a microwave-safe bowl at 30-second intervals using your microwave, or in a double boiler on your rangetop (this method being my preferred approach).
To create a double boiler, fill a small saucepan with approximately an inch of water and bring it to boil on your range. Meanwhile, place an heatproof bowl containing chocolate chips and coconut oil onto top of this saucepan so its steam heat can start warming the bottom surface of the bowl – this ensures complete melting! Stir frequently while melting takes place!
- Dip Your Bananas.
Use a fork to dip each banana in melted chocolate, and allow any excess chocolate to drip back off back into the bowl. Alternatively, use a spoon to drizzle small amounts directly onto frozen bananas positioned on parchment lined pan.
How much chocolate you add is entirely up to you! Feel free to dip only half your frozen banana in melted chocolate (making dipping easier), or cover all aspects.
While your chocolate remains liquid, add any desired additions such as sea salt, crushed peanuts or pretzels for garnish.
Phrase: Another option would be to create mini peanut butter cups using a mini muffin pan or cupcake liner, adding banana slices before freezing so the chocolate coating will be less messy to deal with.
- Enjoy!
Once you’ve added the melted chocolate to the frozen bananas, place your pan back into the freezer long enough for it to set – they should be ready to enjoy in as little as 10 minutes!
Frozen banana bites can easily be stored for three months in an airtight container inside of your freezer, providing an effortless frozen dessert to satisfy those summertime sweet cravings!
Frozen Banana Bites can provide a deliciously refreshing treat from your freezer that are cold & creamy without using dairy ice cream! Perfectly portable treat!

Freeze Time: 2 Hours 30 minutes and Total Time is two and thirty minutes
Servings Available: 24
Instructions Line a baking pan or plate with parchment paper and ensure it will fit on an easily accessible shelf in your freezer. Slice bananas into 1/2-inch coins, and arrange in one layer on your prepared pan. Top each slice off with 1/2 teaspoon of peanut butter (optional); alternatively make banana sandwiches by layering one banana half on top of another layer containing peanut butter! Place this tray of frozen bananas back into your freezer until frozen solid (at least two hours or up to one day).
Once the bananas have frozen, proceed with softening the chocolate chips and coconut oil together. You have two methods available to you for doing this – microwave in 30-second intervals or create a double boiler on the range – but when making the latter method I suggest filling a small saucepan with 1-inch of water then bring to boil – add chocolate chips/coconut oil mixture in heat-safe bowl that fits snuggly over top – steam from boiling water will gently heat underside of bowl while softening chocolate – stirring until mixture clear.
Remove the banana slices from the freezer, and carefully dip each into melted chocolate, taking care to cover both halves evenly or you risk only receiving an even coating across one half. For full coverage on all sides, double the chocolate amount. While still wet, sprinkle additional toppings like sea salt flakes (chopped peanuts or pretzels make good alternatives too!). After adding any desired garnishes (crushed peanuts are great options too!). Finally place back into freezer so the chocolate has time to set for at least 10 more minutes so set time can set properly –
Once the chocolate has set firm, these banana bites can be ready for serving. Store in an airtight container inside your freezer for as much as three months for optimal texture; serve them directly from there for best results (otherwise they risk becoming slimy!). (Letting these sit at room temperature too long may lead to sliminess.)
